How we wipe it
We use KillDisk professional erasure software — DoD 5220.22-M standard. Every wipe generates a timestamped record with the device serial number, wipe method, and date completed. That's what goes on your Certificate of Data Destruction.
iPads and iPhones are handled via Apple's own factory reset — the correct and complete method for iOS devices. No third-party tool is needed or available for iOS.
Just recycling — no sensitive data?
If your device has already been factory reset, or you're recycling something with no personal data on it (a printer, a monitor, accessories), you don't need our service. Use one of these free options:
- Best Buy — Accepts most electronics for free recycling at any store. No purchase required.
- Staples — Free electronics recycling drop-off, up to 7 items per day.
- Manufacturer programs — Apple, Dell, HP, and Lenovo all have mail-in recycling. Check their websites.
- Done With It — TERRA's mail-in program covers Pennsylvania. Ships to a certified R2 recycler.
Our paid service is for devices with sensitive data where you want proof it was destroyed. If that's not you, the free options above are the right call.
